Anna Reid is an artist who works and lives in Dunedin. Anna came to board at Tolcarne in 1981 and attended St Hilda's for 5 years.
During this time she enjoyed studying art but says she probably never spent enough time in the art room to excel in any one discipline. "It was not until I grew up and had enough life experiences that I decided to make a commitment to my art." After travelling overseas for 3 years she came home to a job in an art gallery and a few years later she enrolled in a full time Fine And Visual Art course in Dunedin. She spent the next 5 years studying and exploring the principles of creating art.
With the encouragement of her tutors and the support of her family and friends, she began working as a full time artist out of her Dowling Street studio. "Printmaking has become an addiction of mine that challenges me everyday, with new techniques to learn and many hours spent in exploration. Having my own studio away from home, helps with discipline and means I can make as much of a mess as I like without upsetting anyone. We are lucky in Dunedin to have reasonably priced studios to rent and an art school with great facilities to use."
